There is a toddler bed in the boys’ room that NEVER gets used because Josiah sleeps with us. However, tonight, Josiah climbed up in the toddler bed and Samuel sang him to sleep. Girls are both asleep. Nathan is gone visiting with his cousin who is in town for the weekend.
It’s been a long while since being awake in a quiet house before 9 or 10pm. It’s been a long while since being able to sit down and write. I’ve missed it. But I also know it isn’t worth stressing about. It seems that my time for writing has been replaced with homeschooling. And that’s ok. I love getting to be with my kids all day and seeing them learn new things and play together with their siblings. I love not having to stress about bedtimes and waking them up early. I love that they get to spend their evenings with their dad outside or wrestling on the couch.
I’ve been asked often how homeschooling is going. It’s going well. Some weeks are awesome, and some just aren’t. But isn’t that life?
I am not a scheduled type of person, so that aspect has been difficult for me. Add a 4 year old and Josiah into the mix and I’m not sure anyone could have a schedule! It has been a challenge to homeschool, prepare the lessons, cook allergy friendly meals three times a day, (no eggs, wheat, corn, or dairy and certainly no peanuts), keep up with housework and laundry, as well as all the appointments and therapies for Josiah. Not to mention that a full night’s sleep has been entirely lacking.
Yesterday I was feeling really good about how my week had been going. I had successfully tried new recipes that were mostly liked by all. Supper had been planned out and ready when Nathan got home. School had been going well and we were staying on track; even without a fight! Kids were playing together well and the house was picked up. I even read a new book Nathan ordered for us.
And then 3:50 came. My children started searching for clothing they wanted to wear; all of which were DIRTY. No worries; we were able to find appropriate (and acceptable) CLEAN clothing before heading to town at 4!
THAT’s why the week was going so well! EVERYONE needed laundry done! When Nathan got home from work I mentioned that fact to him, and he kindly nodded in agreement as he also noticed a clothing shortage in the closet.
That’s how life goes. I’m not sure about you, but at least that’s how my life goes.
I’m glad the love of my family isn’t dependent on whether or not I have meals ready, if we have clean clothes, or a clean house. I’m even more glad my salvation isn’t dependent on these things as well! I’m thankful my family offers me grace; just like Jesus offers grace to each and every one of us.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. – Ephesians 2:8
